My first reaction to what Connor said was to wonder whether my message had gone through. However, after a moment of thought, I knew that was impossible. Even if it hadn't gone through, he would've already heard the news regarding my resignation.
Connor was a smart man. There was no way he didn't know what my resignation represented.
If everything had been laid out in the clear, why was Connor seeking me out shamelessly? I didn't voice my confusion.
Gazing coldly at my uninvited guest, I mustered the last of my patience and said, "If you really didn't know, I'm telling you now that we're breaking up. Did you hear that? If you've developed hearing problems, I don't mind repeating it again."
"No matter how many times you repeat that, my answer remains the same." Gritting his teeth, Connor looked into my eyes and said, "Jane, I won't agree to break up. I did nothing wrong. How could you break up with me just like that?"
