I nodded, my voice hoarse as I spoke again, "Alright. Then we play along for now."
With that, I turned and walked out of the hotel room.
I searched everywhere for Joanna. I thought she had already gone home, but to my surprise, I found her standing on the second-floor balcony above the ballroom.
She was talking with Dwight, and they looked like they were having a good time.
The moment our eyes met, I could feel the suppressed anger simmering in her gaze. I froze. My chest tightened with unease.
I took a deep breath and quickly made my way upstairs. When I reached them, Dwight's eyebrows had drawn together ever so slightly, though his tone remained courteous. "Mr. Palmer."
I gave a slight nod back but kept my gaze fixed on Joanna. My voice was filled with anxiety. "Joanna, I… I need to talk to you alone."
She glanced at me briefly before turning away. "I don't think there's anything we need to talk about, Mr. Palmer," she replied coldly.
