chapter 2

" I'm so... sorry" she said. Her voice was music to his ears. He could see she was embarrassed so he tried to put her at ease. " It's okay baby girl" he smiled down at her, showing her the dimples he never knew he had. He didn't smile that often. The only few times he smiled was when the media invited him for an interview on he became that successful at such a young age. His best friend from childhood, Colton Knight had told him countless times that he should smile often and he had arched one eyebrow at him as if to say, " is there any reason to?" The only thing that gave him joy was his company which he had sacrificed so much before it came to be in that position. His parents, Daniel and Dawn Blackwood had been craving for grand kids and had tried on several occasions to set him up on blind dates which he always failed to show up. Dawn, his mother always put on a drama as Brenton would call it whenever she visited. She would cry, beg and urge Brenton to get a wife while jabbing at her eyes with a handkerchief at non existence tears which always made Brenton roll his eyes at her drama. He always find one or two reasons to escape being invited to his parents mansion. Knowing his mother for showing up at his office unannounced, he tried to call her whenever his work was not choking him up, though he preferred it that way. He sighed inwardly, coming back to the reality that he was not alone when the girlish lady coughed slightly to get his attention after noticing that he had been lost in thought for a while. " Sorry " he smiled again. " Why are you here by this time of the night"? He asked, glancing briefly at the bag she was holding. What she came to the grocery store to do was obvious but Brent really wanted to hear her speak again, needed to hear her melodious voice again. " I came to get some things" Mel replied quietly in her soft voice. Brent instantly felt a tightening around his small guy area. Dammit, he was attracted to the girl and she was not even beautiful. She looked like a kid, barely eighteen, if he must add. Her glasses framed her round face, making the freckles on her nose clearer. He groaned inwardly, thinking the lack of sleep these past few days and lack of women was having effect on him. She peered up at him " Hey, you okay"? " Yeah I'm good" he replied, rubbing his eyes. Mel nodded as if to convince herself he was really okay. " So you came to get some things, huh"? He asked again and Mel raised one eyebrow. " I just told you, I came here to get some stuffs " she replied. Yeah he knew, he just wanted to make her stay longer. Hell, why was he feeling this way? He's not really the clingy type so he was confused as to why he would like to spend more time with this girl. " Yeah but I didn't catch your name. I'm Brenton Blackwood" he smiled slightly, thinking she would surely be pleased because almost every one in Los Angeles knew who he was. Her face remained unchanged before she replied and Brent frowned slightly " I'm Mel... Melody Evans. Now if you'll excuse me" she smiled a little and went past him to the door. Brenton went with his instinct and immediately went after her, the reason he came to the place forgotten. He didn't call her though. He went over to where his car was parked and Charles was surprised when his boss didn't have any package with him. " Before you ask me questions, follow that girl going down the street" " Discreetly" he added. The lady in question was not aware that she was being followed. Melody's pov The cool night air blew on her face and she shivered slightly. She walked fast because the street was getting deserted, only a few couples passed by. She was attracted to Emerald Eyes, she thought. Not that she had ever been close to any guy in particular but she couldn't deny that Emerald Eyes was gorgeous, if you can call a red blooded male that. What had he said his name was? Brinton or Breston, she couldn't really remember. She hadn't missed the tips of his mouth curled up in a smile like she should have an idea of who he was. She brushed back the tendrils of her auburn hair which kept getting in her eyes despite the fact that she was on hoodie. She sighed. Her long, red hair was really getting out of hand for her. Her twin had objected to the idea of getting her hair cut to a shoulder length when Mel had told her. Mel however, was not deterred and was still determined to get her hair cut short. She felt it was a sharp, shocking contrast to the color of her eyes. Even the wind couldn't keep her wild hair in place. Mel had threw her twin a glare when she suggested going for a makeover. She had asked, " And what has makeover got to do with my hair?" Luci had replied, " So the hairstylist can find something to do with your hair and definitely not disfigure it!" . Mel had rolled her eyes, not bothering to answer her twin. Luci was fast asleep when she got home. Her phone kept beeping with notifications from her Social media. Obviously, she had slept off while chatting. Mel drew up her bed covers up to her chin, tucked her in properly before switching off the lights and going up to her own room. They had shared a room when they were younger but that had changed immediately they hit puberty. Lucille had complained the room was too bare and thus filled it her favorite Pop stars pictures. She turned their room into a mini show room which got Melody heated up. They fought over it and at last, Diana decided to let them have their own room.
