Chapter 44 Shock

Cameron arrived at the apartment. Macie got back a step ahead of him and threw herself into his arms when he opened the door. "Cam, you're finally here. I was so scared." He patted her back and calmed her for a moment, then glanced around the room. "Where's Leo?" Macie used the excuses she had already prepared. "He left. He kept slamming the door and yelling nonstop." As she spoke, she seemed afraid. She pressed herself closer to his chest. Cameron knew it wasn't quite right to hold her, but he didn't pull away. He had promised Aaron he would take care of her. His voice turned cold, and there was a sharp edge of danger in it. "Don't worry. I'll deal with him. He won't get another chance to harass you." Macie's stomach dropped. If Leo got cornered, he might blurt out everything from back then, and that would be the end of her. She couldn't let Cameron go after him. She stepped back with a troubled look. "Don't. He's my brother. If you lay a hand on him, my parents will scold me.
