Noah’s expression made it clear that he didn’t believe a word I said. His eyes scanned my face, as if searching for any sign of truth.
I gasped for air, my grip tightening around Coco, the puppy in my arms. Instinctively, I took a step back, my back pressing against the elevator wall, trapping me in place. There was no space left for me to retreat.
“I was just asking casually, Olivia,” Noah said, his tone still probing. “But why do you seem so nervous?”
I cleared my throat, trying to regain my composure. “Dr. Morgan, don’t you think your actions are a bit… too forward?” I said, attempting to mask the rising panic within me.
Noah raised an eyebrow, his expression unreadable. “I was standing outside the elevator, two meters away from you. How did I become frivolous?”
The elevator began beeping, its doors still ajar for too long. Finally, Noah released his grip, and I couldn’t help but feel the weight of his gaze as the door slowly began to close.
