The freezing water knocked the breath out of me the moment I hit the ocean.
By the time I managed to drag myself back onto the rocks beneath the overlook, every part of my body was trembling.
My clothes were soaked and my hair clung to my forehead. I could barely feel my fingers.
I didn’t know how long I walked after that.
The streets blurred together as I moved without direction.
Then I saw it.
A church stood quietly at the corner of the street, its doors still open.
I found myself walking inside without thinking. The verse I had read earlier at Grace Haven Church continued to weigh heavily on my mind.
This church was larger than the one we had visited earlier that day. The sanctuary was quiet, with only a few lights still on near the pulpit.
My damp shoes left faint marks on the floor as I walked inside.
I stopped near the middle of the sanctuary and slowly lowered myself onto one of the pews.
