OLIVIA I had just gotten home when my phone suddenly rang. It was Mia, Jennifer’s assistant. “Olivia,” Mia said on the other end of the line, sounding slightly anxious, “Jennifer asked if you could go to the Crescent Club in her place tonight.” I frowned immediately. “Didn’t she confirm earlier that she would be the one attending the event?” I asked. There was a brief pause before Mia answered. “Jennifer is in the ER right now.” My eyes widened in surprise. “What happened to her?” “Her gastroenteritis flared up again,” Mia explained. “The doctors are checking on her now.” “Can you send me the hospital address? I’ll head there right away,” I said before ending the call. When I arrived at the emergency department, I spotted Jennifer in the infusion area. She looked pale as she received an IV drip while Mia sat beside her. I walked quickly toward them. My forehead creased as I took in her condition.
