NOAH
“Are you Aiden’s uncle?”
I smiled and nodded. “Yes, Ms. Collins. Can you tell me what happened?”
“Aiden got into a small fight with a classmate. He messed up her hair, and when she got angry, she hit him,” Ms. Collins explained.
“I called you to discuss what happened and to figure out how we should handle it moving forward. Hannah’s mom is also here—Ms. Evans!” she added, then called the other child’s mother over.
I turned in the direction Ms. Collins was pointing and saw a little girl with her mother. I furrowed my brow; they both looked familiar. I also noticed the tension in the mother’s posture.
The little girl turned around and our eyes met. We both froze in surprise—it was Hannah Evans.
“Dr. Morgan!” she called out.
I walked over, squatted down, and gently ran my fingers through Hannah’s hair. “Hi, Hannah!”
“I apologize on behalf of my nephew,” I said softly. “He shouldn’t have messed up your hair.”
