When I stepped inside the house, it was empty. Hannah and the dogs were sleeping next door at Margareth’s place.
I missed my daughter. I just wanted to hold her, feel her warmth after everything that happened today. The fear I felt earlier was no joke. If it hadn’t been for Noah, I honestly don’t know if my family and I would be safe.
Noah was right—I really did bother him today. I thought everything had returned to normal, that we were simply strangers now, keeping our distance. But no matter how hard we tried to avoid each other, something always seemed to pull us back together.
And I couldn’t deny that every time I saw him, those old wounds in my heart seemed to reopen, itching at me like a scab that wouldn’t heal.
Maybe it’s time for Hannah and me to leave California for good. As long as we stay here, we’ll keep running into Noah. And if that keeps happening, it’s only a matter of time before he finds out the truth about his relationship with Hannah.
