As he walked past Edith, he caught the sweet, cloying scent on her body, and suddenly felt like vomiting again. He didn’t know when it had started, but seeing Edith no longer stirred the same feelings in him as before. He struggled to suppress the unwanted thoughts in his heart. At the dinner table, Parker picked at the heavier dishes. “Edith, when should we go get our marriage certificate? The child can’t wait.” Parker didn't realize how long it had taken him to build up the courage to say those words. “Alright, I'll do whatever you say!” Edith smiled gently, but her heart was filled with anxiety. She touched her abdomen, wondering when this child would finally come. In a few more months, it would be impossible to hide the pregnancy, so how could she not be anxious? The Greene Family had protected Cornelia too well; there were always people surrounding her for protection.
