In truth, Teresa had considered that problem while she was in the holding cell as well, so Cameron's anger was justified. Thankfully, the police hadn't pressed the issue. Nonetheless, she still couldn't completely shake her worry.

Another bout of silence descended upon them.
Eventually, Cameron said, "You truly aren't suited to be Rosie's mother."
His voice was calm, as though he were talking about something as simple as dinner. With just that one sentence, he had easily brushed aside all the sacrifices and effort Teresa had made over the years.
All Teresa could do was laugh. But slowly, tears began to fall from her eyes.
Indignance burned in her as she turned her head away, though she still asked Cameron, "Then tell me, what do you want?"
