Chapter 30 What Did Evelyn Do to Deserve His Love?
Marilyn tugged at Evelyn's sleeve. "Evie, what are you looking at?"
Evelyn recovered from the shock. "Oh, it's nothing."
She turned Marilyn's wheelchair in the opposite direction for fear that the scene would trigger Marilyn. "Grandma, it almost slipped my mind that you have a doctor's appointment. Should we feed the fish another day?"
"Of course. I'll do as you say." Marilyn smiled lovingly at Evelyn.
When they turned a corner, Evelyn couldn't help but steal a glance in that direction. Jane was now in Hugo's arms, smiling ear-to-ear. He did not push her away.
Their intimacy sent a stabbing pain through her chest. She felt like a loser who could only run away because she was too scared to confront them.
