Chapter 34 I’d Much Rather Work With Capable People
Time seemed to stop as Evelyn and Hugo stared at each other silently through the thick crowd.
"Evelyn?" Shane looked at her in concern. "Would you like something to drink?"
Evelyn snapped back to her senses and smiled at him. "Sure."
There was no avoiding Hugo now, so she might as well face the music.
Shane nodded and summoned a waiter to bring her a low-alcohol cocktail.
After clinking glasses, Evelyn tilted her head back and downed a good half of her drink.
She wasn't particularly good at holding her liquor, but she was good enough to handle the occasional social function.
After putting down her glass, she glanced over at Hugo again involuntarily.
Hugo was leaning close to Jane, whispering something in her ear. The conversation looked brief—he turned and walked away after just a few words.
Jane, on the other hand, headed in their direction with a glass of wine in her hand. She greeted Alina first. "Hey, Alina. Long time no see."
