Chapter 12 The Gall on Her

”He is gone.” “What’s gone?” Cecelia was puzzled. “Who’s gone?” “Who do you think?” “My savior?” “Yes!” Cecelia froze and paled instantly. “You–didn’t you say he was awake? Doesn’t being awake mean he was out of danger? And that doctor promised that he’s going to be fine. Why are you saying that he’s dead?” “Gone doesn’t mean he’s dead,” William pinched his brows. “Huff!” Cecelia breathed deeply. “Can’t you speak clearly? You almost scared me to death.” She was the one who misunderstood his words! Cecelia’s brows furrowed in concern. “How could he leave when he just woke up? Didn’t you say you’ll watch over him? I’ve not even met my savior, how could you allow him to leave?” “He had his legs with him, he’s free to come or go as he pleases.” “You’re right,” Cecelia sighed. “I tried my best to rush back as quickly as possible. I did not expect things to turn out this way. If I’d have known, I wouldn’t have left. That way, at least I would know who my savior is.” At this, Cecelia quickly asked William, “Pretty boy, did you ask for his name?” If she knew his name, she could enlist Grace’s help to look for him, right? Cecelia felt that Grace was quite capable, otherwise, she would not have found her such a good job. Unexpectedly, William replied, “No.” “Why did you allow him to leave without getting any information from him? At the very least, you should have gotten his name, so we can repay our gratitude!” Cecelia was extremely frustrated. “I really shouldn’t have listened to you and returned home. Just look at you, you couldn’t make a decent living, and now, you can’t even look after a person properly. What else can you do besides spending money?” Cecelia was really disappointed as she was not able to see her savior. He saved her life! This debt of gratitude was larger than the heavens! And William ruined it. When one was angry, one would be more courageous. At this moment, she thought of the clothes in the closet. “For someone like you who doesn’t even have a job, why do you need so much clothes? When we get home, you need to return everything. Otherwise, you’ll pay for it. I’ll not fork out a single cent for anything.” When Cecelia said this, the persona of a shrew was quite apparent. She walked out after saying that. Her savior was gone, so why should she remain? Cecelia took two steps before she noticed William standing rooted to the spot. “Why are you just standing there? Go home and start cooking.” Cecelia was being really feisty and sassy at this moment, too upset to notice the darkening mood on William’s face. Seeing William being reprimanded, Zachary, who was walking in their direction, could not help a chuckle. Of all the people who dared to raise their voice at William, be it a man or a woman, Cecelia was the one and only. Hearing Zachary’s laughter, William glared sharply at him. Without even a single word, a mere glance sent Zachary packing. He scurried away as quickly as he could. Once he was quite a distance away and felt that he could not be overheard, Zachary grumbled under his breath, “If you’re so capable, why don’t you yell at Cecelia instead? You’re only good at bullying me. If you aren’t careful, I’ll tell the guys that you’re a henpecked husband!” Needless to say, Zachary was merely venting his frustration. If he ever dared to disclose what happened, only certain death would await him. When Cecelia returned home, not only was she still unappeased, she got angrier as she thought about the matter. Especially as she laid eyes on William, she could not help but find fault with him. “Why are you still standing around? Didn’t you notice that it was getting late? Start cooking at once! Are you disappointed that I was not knocked dead, and now want to starve me to death instead?” Cecelia was utterly irrational, and her bravado got the better of her. William looked at her thoughtfully, before retreating into the kitchen. During the meal, Cecelia was still unable to calm down, especially when she saw the plate of stir-fried carrots. “Don’t you know that I don’t eat carrots?” Cecelia glowered. “If you don’t want me to eat, just say so. What’s the meaning of an underhanded trick like this?” Cecelia was not entirely repulsed by carrots, but she was still upset, and overreacted. William remained silent, put the plate of carrots in front of him, and ate everything. Cecelia had her own opinion about William’s refusal to speak. “What’s behind this cold-shoulder you’re giving me? A silent protest?” William put down his utensils and lifted his eyes. “What do you want me to say?” “What do I want you to say?” Cecelia’s temper was stoked by William’s attitude. “Judging from your expression, do you have an opinion about me? Why, you allowed my savior to leave, shouldn’t I be angry? You bought so many clothes, never once considering that it was my hard-earned money, can’t I say a few words about you?” “Of course you can,” William replied without hesitation. “Do continue, I’m listening.” “You!” To Cecelia, William’s reaction was a blatant display of a condescending attitude; that her words went in one ear and out the other. Throwing her utensils on the table, Cecelia ran to the bedroom in a huff. In less than two minutes, she returned with an armful of clothes and threw it at William. “Return all of this.” Glancing at the clothes she had thrown on the ground, William remained stoic, finishing the last mouthful of his food before getting up slowly from his seat. However, he ignored the clothes that were strewn across the floor. Seeing that he was about to leave, Cecelia reached out and grabbed hold of him. “Did you hear what I just said? Return the clothes at once!” “Woman, you need to cut it out and get off my back!” With that said, William hooked his arms around Cecelia’s waist, and without another word, he sealed the lips that spoke continuously since returning from the hospital. His behavior earlier had made the already distressed Cecelia mad with rage. This action of his finally brought some senses back to Cecelia Shayne. She finally realized the stupid things she had done. She shouted at him at the hospital, ordered him to cook when they returned, complained about the food he cooked, and threw the clothes at his face… Goodness gracious! The gall of her! Was it too late to beg for mercy now? Without being aware of the time passing, just as Cecelia thought she was going to die from suffocation, William Sandler finally released her. His placid eyes locked on her, and he said tepidly, “Anything else you want to say?” Cecelia was afraid of his retaliation, so she replied timidly, “No, nothing!”
