A splash of unknown liquid flew toward Vanessa. Baxter quickly shielded her with his body, while Huxley reacted swiftly and pulled her into his arms. A sharp gasp escaped Baxter's lips. His clothes and back were instantly corroded, turning yellow and raw. The liquid was sulfuric acid! "Are you okay?" Vanessa asked Baxter anxiously. The concern she showed at that moment of danger warmed his heart. He gave a small nod in response, though in truth, he felt a sharp ache in his chest. So, this was what it felt like to be ignored by the one he loved. The pain in his heart was a hundred times worse than the pain on his back. "Baxter!" The woman roared hysterically, "Why are you still protecting her? She faked her death and lied to you, and you still love her? But she doesn't love you anymore! Serves you right!"
