Eric stopped sobbing and raised his head, stunned. When he saw the smile on my face, he cried even harder. Blood was thicker than water, so I knew what he wanted to say. He was apologizing to me, but he dared not hope that I'd forgive him, even wishing that he could swap his life for mine. I hadn't spoken for a long time, and my voice was croaky. Eric wiped the tears from his eyes and stood up to fetch me a glass of water. He delivered the water to my lips and smiled when I drank from the glass. "When did Fiona show up?" I asked. Eric was a little stunned at my question. His eyes were laced with anger after he snapped back to his senses. "On the day you left, I saw her the moment I opened my eyes." I chuckled at the iciness in his eyes. Fiona's appearance was questionable and, despite coming from a dubious background, she was inexplicably able to gain Eric's trust. That explained why he believed her nonsense when she claimed that I jinxed my family, despite his frustrations. As
