Chapter 1 Divorce

Smack! A divorce agreement was thrown before Ivanka Lane. “Your sister is awake. I’ve promised her that there won’t be another Mrs. Barkworth as long as she’s alive. “Ivanka, sign the papers. We’re getting a divorce.” Ivanka’s cousin had regained consciousness this month. Since then, Ivanka had known this day would come. Ivanka looked up and, her bitterness was clear. “You still don’t trust me even to this day, do you?” Michael Barkworth snorted. “You’ve been a materialistic woman from beginning to end. Why should I trust you? “Ivanka, I hate repeating myself. Just sign the papers. This mansion is yours, as a final show of respect!” A hint of mockery flashed in Ivanka’s eyes. She thought. “Hmph! Therefore, he thinks he is being merciful by sparing some of his assets for me in the divorce?” She took the divorce agreement and saw his signature at the end of it. Calmly, Ivanka asked, “Do you think Grandma will agree to this?” “Do you think that Grandma can provide you with endless support as long as she’s still around?!” Michael stared at her coldly. “You know why we got married in the first place! Ivanka, don’t be so greedy! I’ll only find you even more disgusting!” Ivanka smirked. “What’s the difference between you being disgusted with me and even more disgusted with me?” Michael’s gaze turned razor-sharp. “Ivanka!” Ivanka took the pen. “Fine. I’ll sign now.” Chiara Lane, her cousin, had sent Ivanka countless intimate photos between her and Michael. So, what was the point of maintaining such a marriage? Ivanka struck off the clause that would have earned her his mansion before signing the papers without hesitation. With that, they finally ended their three-year marriage. From hence forth, she was free. Ivanka stood up and said coolly, “Give me an hour. I’ll pack my things now and leave the mansion.” Michael pursed his lips. He stared at her and said in a low voice, “The mansion is yours. You don’t have to leave.” “No need. I think wherever you’ve been is dirty!” Ivanka sneered. “Ivanka Lane!” She went upstairs and ignored the angry man behind her. After an hour, Ivanka finished packing her stuff. Michael was gone. The divorce agreement was on the coffee table. It was an eyesore. She sucked in a deep breath. She had to say goodbye to this place and her once lovestruck self after three years. From today on, she had to live for herself! She left the mansion and called a cab. The cab sent her to her own apartment unit. Suki Moore was dumbfounded when she saw Ivanka coming to her with her suitcase. “What the…? Am I dreaming?” “No, you’re not dreaming. This time, I’ve decided to listen to you and focus on my career.” The corners of Ivanka’s lips curved upward when she noticed Suki was still staring at her blankly. “Aren’t you going to welcome me home?” Suki looked shocked. “You’ve been devoted to your husband for the past three years and even gave up your career to become a full-time homemaker. And now, you’re telling me that you want to return to your profession. Do you have a few screws loose in your head today?! Are you kidding me?” Suki was Ivanka’s assistant. Aside from Suki, no one else knew Ivanka’s second identity—The Elite Lawyer Iris! There was a saying on the internet: Iris was second to none. Her name stirred up fear among the lawyers. Ivanka put her suitcase down and said to Suki, “Has anyone been looking for me recently? Are there any interesting cases?” Suki’s eyes flashed and said regretfully, “There is one. The client offered a sky-high price, but no one dared to take it. Y-You certainly can’t take it.”
