Chapter 125
Susan sat outside alone for a long time, too afraid to expose Louis' lies. He didn't want her to worry, and she didn't want him to either.
Autumn had arrived. The wind tousled her hair, and her back was slightly hunched. She looked much older than other women her age, perhaps due to overworking herself.
Just then, a young woman outside the alley tore apart cardboard boxes as she opened some parcels. Susan watched as the woman finished opening them. She then headed to the trash can and retrieved the torn-up pieces of cardboard.
After tidying them up, she sighed and carried the cardboard back with her. Since she couldn't do much to help her son, she could only reduce his burden as much as possible. He had been working so hard, and she had to take good care of herself, too.
