"You wanted me dead?"
Louis couldn't believe what he was hearing. But even now, he didn't want Angelina to see him crying.
He lowered his head, burying it against her, his chin brushing lightly against her forehead. His eyes drifted to the frost-covered wall of the freezer truck—thick ice caked the surface like mold grown in a dark, damp place.
"That's right," she said coldly. "I did want you dead. If you were gone, William would have one less lapdog. You've thrown in with those people—you don't even have a conscience left."
"What is a conscience?"
His voice was eerily calm. "Do you think we could ever go back?"
