Chapter 33 Don't Give up on Me

Matilda's heart got tense. Not a single light was on downstairs, and the noise became more pronounced in the darkness. It was like someone was pouring something. It was rattling. Matilda could even imagine that the hands were shaking and could not get it out. “Have you come back, Aaron?” Matilda ventured to shout. Suddenly the air was quiet, and then a sound of something falling to the ground. Matilda, standing at the top of the stairs, was surprised to hear the sound and quickly pressed the switch of the light. The dazzling lights suddenly filled the living room. She was shocked by what she saw. Samuel was curled up in a corner under the sofa, and a bottle had fallen at his feet, with white pills spilling over the floor. He was going to pick up the pills on the floor when he suddenly felt the light turn on. He had to cover the harsh light in front of him, and his eyes were horribly red. Matilda paused for a moment, then approached Samuel and said, pretending to be natural, “Yo
