Chapter 18 Mom And I Will Wait for You

“You don’t need to apologize to me, you just need to apologize to mom. She was so worried about you that she’s suffering from insomnia. She even has to wait for you now,” Jade said. “I’m sorry, it’s all my fault.” Jade's father felt extremely embarrassed. “The lawyer said you could get a commuted sentence if you behave well.” Jade’s father had tears swimming in his eyes. After talking for a while, Jade’s father asked, “How are you and Zephaniah?” “Not really good. We’re getting divorced.” Jade did not hide the truth. Jade’s father was stunned for a moment before he said remorsefully, “It’s my fault. If I didn’t force Zephaniah to marry you back then, you wouldn’t be feeling so unhappy right now.” Jade shook her head. She knew her father did it out of love for her. At that time, she only mentioned that she liked Zephaniah, and her father had immediately gone to the Owens family. Coincidentally, the Owens family needed her father to do them a favor right then, so the marriage was decided. Her father loved her, and he would give her everything she wanted. She wanted to thank her father because after she married Zephaniah and learned that he did not love her, she completely got rid of the longing for him in her heart. She did not feel heartbroken even when she filed for divorce. Once visiting hours ended, the prison guard started to demand her to leave, so Jade reluctantly bade her father goodbye. After she left the prison, she took a taxi to return to the city area. Perhaps it was due to a lack of rest, but Jade felt a weight on her chest. There was even pain in her stomach. She slowly lost consciousness due to the pain, and when she woke up, she was already in the hospital. “Miss, you should rest well when you’re pregnant.” A nurse noticed that Jade had woken up, and she could not help but say, “Your pregnancy is still not stable. If you don’t rest well, you’ll suffer a miscarriage.” According to the nurse, Jade fainted in the taxi, and the driver sent her to the hospital. Jade did not say anything. She obediently let the nurse perform the examination for her. Only when the nurse said she could leave did she put on her shoes and slowly walk out of the ward. People came and went in the long corridor. Everyone had different facial expressions; some were happy, while some were sad. She saw a married couple passing by with a baby in their arms. The newborn baby was wrapped up in a blanket, and the husband was gently poking the newborn baby’s rosy cheeks. His face showed a happy smile. “Dear, look, his mouth is just like yours.” The wife smacked him lightly. She was a little unhappy. “Are you saying that my mouth is big?” “Not at all, you’re the prettiest woman in the world!” Jade watched the married couple walk away, and she felt jealous. She subconsciously touched her stomach. A little life was growing inside her stomach now. Perhaps, in the future, she would also have a pair of black eyes staring back at her. Jade slowly leaned against the wall and slid down until she squatted on the ground. She could not hold her tears anymore. “I’m sorry, I’m really sorry.” When Jade went back to Easton Mcdaniel’s house, she realized that he was back home, playing with Taylor. “I’m sorry, the negotiation took two more days.” Easton was very apologetic about asking Jade to look after Taylor for so long. When he saw how pale she was, he could not help but ask, “What’s wrong? Why do you look so pale?” Jade shook her head and forced herself to smile. “Easton, could you do me a favor?” Zephaniah was still pulling his hair out while searching for Jade. It was only when he started to look for her that he realized he did not understand her much, and he did not know her friends. He could not find her in both her mother’s place and her company, so he could only continue to drive as he searched for her aimlessly. He did not know why he felt so agitated either. All he thought was he should have been the one to ask for the divorce first, and Jade should not have been the one who took the initiative. Now, she made him look like a heartless man who oppressed her. While Zephaniah was considering asking a hacker to help locate Jade’s phone, his phone rang. It was an unknown number. However, he had a vague feeling that it was from Jade, so he hurriedly picked it up. “Jade?” “It’s me.” Jade hummed before she spoke calmly, “Zephaniah, let’s go to my mom’s place for dinner tonight.” “Okay, I’ll go.” Zephaniah finally breathed a sigh of relief. A call from Jade meant they still had some wiggle room. Yet, to Zephaniah’s surprise, when he arrived at her mother’s place, the one who opened the door for him was neither Jade’s mother nor Jade. It was a tall man.
