"I don't believe you either! Ellie, I'm done trusting you!"
Eugene's tone was flat, but his eyes were sharp as ice when he looked at Ellie.
"No... Eugene... you—" Ellie barely got a word out before two police officers walked up and said, "We need you to come with us for an investigation related to Mr. Collins' case."
"No, no, I'm not going!" Ellie freaked out completely, tears and snot all over her face as she scrambled to get away. But the officers were quicker—they grabbed her and calmly explained while escorting her off.
The hallway fell quiet again soon after.
Eugene turned to look at Clara, his expression distant, like he was drowning in the regret of the last five years of blindness.
"Clara..." His voice was hoarse, almost like it had been soaked in water.
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry, Clara. For everything. I was wrong—like seriously messed—up kind of wrong." Each word hit heavy as he looked at her with those regretful, dark eyes.
