The Unmasking
Amelia's POV
The world tilts sideways, and I can't tell if it's the vodka or fate.
Holly's face swims in front of me, concerned and blurry. "Babe, maybe we should get you home. You've had a lot to drink."
"I'm fine!" The words slur together. "Tonight is your night. We're celebrating!"
But the room is spinning, the bass feels like it's inside my skull, and my legs aren't quite working the way they should. I grip the wall for support, laughing at nothing, feeling gloriously untethered from reality.
"Bathroom," I announce. "Need to pee."
Holly tries to follow, but I wave her off. "I can handle peeing by myself. Go dance with that cute bartender!"
The hallway to the restrooms is quieter, dimmer, and I use the wall as my guide. Everything feels soft around the edges, pleasantly fuzzy. I'm happy. When did I get so happy? Was it the drinks? Was it seeing Victor with his pretty blonde fiancée and feeling... nothing? Was it knowing that somewhere, V is thinking about me?
The bathroom is a blur
