Now he had to bring it up. Kathleen clenched her fists and lifted her chin slightly.
"We're not even that close for me to demand an explanation, but I thought we could at least be somewhat honest with each other. If you went to see your ex, just admit it—why lie to me? Even if you had slept with her or something, I could have understood."
Kathleen had kept it bottled up for so long that finally expressing it eased the tension in her chest. She was never one to hold back her feelings; when something bothered her, she had to speak her mind.
This wasn't about jealousy—she just couldn't tolerate Shawn's dishonesty. They lived together. Why was it so difficult to be truthful?
"It's not lying. I just didn't think it was necessary to tell you," Shawn responded calmly.
Kathleen clenched her fists tightly, took a deep breath, nodded, and said, "Yeah, it really wasn't necessary. Forget it. I thought I mattered more. Fine, just assume I was losing it. Good night."
