Jaquan's suspicious gaze lingered on Nelson's changing expression. His raised hand hesitated, not yet lowering. He shouted,
"Did you hear that, Callie? This man in front of you isn’t worth bearing children for. I’ve told you before—he has no feelings."
The light that had momentarily flickered in Callie’s eyes seemed to fade when she heard Nelson’s words. She whispered softly,
"I’ve known all along."
"Where’s the money? Tell me, and I’ll take care of him for you," Jaquan said, staring directly at her.
This was a tactic to sow discord, but Callie wasn’t so easily fooled. She replied with scorn,
"Birds of a feather. I’ll tell you the same thing again—you might as well kill me."
Both were stubborn, unyielding people. Jaquan raised the gun, aiming it at Nelson.
"Think about the suffering you’ve endured. Don’t you want to see him dead?"
His phone buzzed incessantly in his pocket. Answering it, Owen’s voice came through the line:
