Chapter 1302: Forgetfulness of the Privileged
Callie spoke for a while before exhaustion overtook her again. Resting her arm beneath her head, she drifted into a light slumber.
Nelson crouched beside her, carefully tucking the blanket around her. “Sleep well. Tomorrow will be a beautiful day,” he murmured.
In her hazy consciousness, Callie felt an inexplicable sense of disconnection despite the tenderness in his words.
The following day turned out to be just as beautiful as Nelson had promised. When Callie woke up, sunlight streamed into the room, warming her arm and rousing her fully. She sat up and caught sight of Grape’s small figure seated on the living room sofa, engrossed in a book.
The child was completely absorbed, sitting still and waiting patiently for her mother to wake.
A pang of guilt rose in Callie’s chest. She walked over and asked softly, “What are you reading?”
Hearing her voice, Grape tossed the book aside and leapt into her arms. “Mommy, you’re finally awake!”
