Madam Jacobson's fondness for Lilith Whitehead was akin to loving the house along with the bird. Despite Lilith's gentle and obedient demeanor, Madam Jacobson sensed something elusive about her—something she couldn't quite grasp.
Lilith seemed shrouded in a thin veil, an image too perfect to be real.
"No, nothing at all. I was just thinking how lonely Grandma must be, living alone in the family mansion all these years. I'll make sure to visit more often when I can."
She offered a gentle smile—deceptively sweet.
"Haha, good, good, good. This old woman does get lonely staying all by herself..."
Madam Jacobson was about to accept Lilith's kind offer but hesitated. Soon, Vivian Donovan would be her god-granddaughter. If Lilith kept visiting the Jacobson Manor, it might only create tension.
So she changed her tone. "But I've grown accustomed to my solitude. Having someone around might make me uneasy. I appreciate your thoughtfulness, but if you have free time, why not spend it with Bernard?
