Chapter 9

I lowered my head apologetically as Felix pulled me into his arms once again. "Forget it. It's not your fault. Nathan was the one who was too calculative." I smiled and hummed in agreement, failing to notice Nathan, who was hiding in a corner. His face paled as he saw us hugging, and the sight of us exchanging smiles sent him into a fit of jealousy. Despite his refusal to admit it, Nathan liked me. He thoroughly enjoyed my admiration, but refused to be known as the adopted son who was brought in just to be my husband. As such, he kept himself above me and rejected me over and over, trampling my pride with every rejection. Nathan looked at me bitterly but couldn't bring himself to step forward. It wasn't until Felix and I walked upstairs hand in hand that he finally moved. Samuel anxiously called him, "Where have you been? Cecelia is missing again! She disappeared after taking a call from Sherry. Sherry must be the one who's forcing her to leave us!" Nathan frowned in confusion.
