Spencer didn't refute, nor did he explain himself. He only stood there in silence for a long time. It was only when the rain began to fall harder, soaking through his suit, that he slowly turned around. He didn't spare the headstone another glance and walked toward the car parked by the roadside. His figure looked thin and lonely through the curtain of rain. Mason remained where he was, watching Spencer get into the car. The engine started, and the vehicle disappeared along the winding mountain road. Then, Mason turned back and looked at the photograph on the headstone. Raindrops struck the smooth surface of the stone, causing a small splash of water that blurred Suzanne's smiling face. Suddenly, that smile felt painfully glaring to him.
