Chapter 7
Roxanne loved Floral City. Just like its name suggested, flowers were everywhere. Bouquets were abundant and cheap.
She liked bellflowers. Buying a bunch, she cradled them in her hands and breathed in their fragrance. She was utterly delighted.
Roxanne spent the day browsing florists, collecting contacts. Once she returned to Riverton to open her own flower shop, she'd reach out to these suppliers.
She was completely immersed in her plans. She could already picture the elegant and charming store she would create. It felt like happiness.
While searching online, she found out that Floral City had a famous steakhouse. Reservations were done through a lottery system, and only the lucky ones got a table.
Roxanne had entered the lottery before arriving in Floral City. And just now, she received a message that she had won a spot for 7:00 pm tonight.
She jumped with excitement. It seemed that ever since she had left the wrong person behind, her luck had turned around. She put on flawless makeup and arrived at the restaurant.
Roxanne took out her reservation number. It was number nine.
She immediately noticed a shift in the waiter's demeanor.
"Ms. Sawyer, please follow me."
Roxanne knew the place was popular, but she didn't expect such high-end service. The waiter's professionalism was on par with a five-star establishment.
To her surprise, she was led to a private room.
"I'm dining alone. Do I really need a private room?"
The average cost per person here was around a thousand dollars. It wasn't cheap, but not outrageously high, either. Could a thousand dollars really buy such top-tier service?
Clearly, this restaurant's fame wasn't just luck.
But the moment she stepped inside and saw the man sitting elegantly at the table, all her good impressions of the place vanished.
Roxanne instinctively turned to leave. But the door was already shut and even locked.
She let out a frustrated laugh. Crossing her arms, she turned around and looked at Sebastian, who sat there composed and refined as ever.
She raised her brow. "What's this about?"
He gestured to the seat beside him, smoothly unfolding a napkin. "You wanted steak, didn't you? Take a seat."
Roxanne spread her hands. "Sorry. I don't have the habit of dining with my ex. It ruins my appetite."
Sebastian's expression remained cold, his face unreadable.
"I never agreed to the breakup."
Roxanne flashed him a bright smile. "A breakup only requires one person's consent."
To be honest, she was surprised to run into him in Cloudia City. But running into him in Floral City made it clear. He had followed her here.
If this had happened before, she might have been so moved that she'd cry. But now, she just felt annoyed.
Sebastian stood up. At nearly six-foot-three, he made her five-foot-six frame look small and delicate.
His voice softened. "Calling off the engagement was my mistake. I hurt your feelings. There won't be a next time. I'll give you an even grander one."
Roxanne immediately gestured a big 'no' with her arms. "No! Absolutely not! We're done. There won't be an engagement party!"
She quickly pressed her hands together in mock prayer. "You and Liana are perfect for each other. I was the one getting in the way. Now that I'm out of the picture, give that engagement party to her! I beg you. Stay tied to her and leave me alone, okay?"
Sebastian frowned, his striking features filled with exasperation. "I've told you countless times. Liana is just like my sister. There's nothing between us. Why won't you believe me?"
Roxanne pinched the bridge of her nose.
She and Sebastian could never communicate when it came to Liana. They could never see eye to eye on this before. Now, she wasn't even interested in trying.
She simply spread her hands. "Whether she's your sister or not is your business. It has nothing to do with me. Sebastian, I'd appreciate it if you could act like a man. We broke up. Stop clinging to me, okay?"
Sebastian's face darkened.
"I'm clinging to you?" He let out a cold laugh, looking down at her with a mocking gaze. "For the past seven years, who was really clinging to who?"
Roxanne's chest tightened. Seven years' worth of memories flashed before her eyes. She wanted to slap herself hard.
Sebastian realized he had misspoken. Just as he was about to say something to make up for it, Roxanne met his gaze with unwavering determination.
"Yes, for the past seven years, I was the one clinging to you. I admit it. And I also accept my mistake. But now, I'm done. I'm letting you go, Sebastian."
His expression turned icy. "Mistake?"
She called their seven years together a mistake?
Roxanne had no interest in continuing this conversation. She knocked on the door and gestured at him. "Tell your people to open this."
Sebastian was filled with frustration. He didn't want to keep arguing about the breakup, either. He knew he was at fault. He hadn't considered how she'd feel when he cancelled the engagement party without a second thought.
A little tantrum was understandable. But making such a big deal out of it was completely unnecessary.
Still, he wouldn't hold it against her. His voice was cold as he pointed at the table. "Eat first."
Roxanne knew him too well. It had always been like this.
Whenever there was a problem, he'd go silent. He'd let time pass, expecting her to swallow her grievances on her own.
She used to struggle, wondering if she was the problem. Was she not good enough? Had she done something wrong? She lived in constant self-doubt, constantly tearing herself down.
But now that she had stepped away, she saw it clearly.
Sebastian had been giving her the silent treatment. For seven years, she had endured this, and she hadn't even realized it.
Roxanne smiled faintly and pointed at the door. "Explode!"
The moment the word left her lips, a loud boom echoed through the room. The screws popped out, and the entire door collapsed outward with a deafening crash.
Sebastian was stunned. "What's going on? Your jinxing skill is back?"
He knew about his jinxing skill. At first, he found it amusing. He was even intrigued by it.
But later, he grew to dislike it. He had even chided her, telling her not to use it so carelessly. And somehow, her jinxing skill had gradually disappeared. Yet, it was back now.
Roxanne sneered as she looked at him.
"That's right. My jinxing skill is back. So, do yourself a favor and break up with me for good. Otherwise, your precious Liana might be the next to suffer."
She gave him a wicked grin.
"You know how powerful my words can be. And trust me. Your dear Liana wouldn't survive a single curse from me."
