Chapter 8

When we reached the gates, they opened automatically. As we drove in the I could see the mansion better. A cream marble fountain was sitting on the yarn. The yarn had strong rich grass and the flower arrangements were amazing. It was elegant, a home meant for family. Was Mr. Carter married? I shift my attention to his left hand which was on the steering wheel. There was no ring on it, but you can never be too sure. Married men these days didn't wear a ring much. Mr. Carter stopped the car and turned off the engine. Without turning to me, he opened his door and exit the car. I followed him by opening my door as well, after which I opened the back door to let out Grey. I pat him on his head. "Come boy." I walked over to where Mr. Carter was standing, which seemed like a door. When I was behind him he pressed the doorbell. I became curious, wasn't this is house? The door opened and a lady in black and white uniform was visible. Her blond hair was fading to grey, she looked pleasant as she smiled at Mr. Carter. "Good afternoon, Mr. Carter. Welcome home." She turned and when she saw me the smile was no longer there, it was replaced with a scowl. With a reaction like that, I knew she disliked me, which meant he told her about my sister. "Good afternoon, Ms. Bisson." Trying to lighten the mood of the older-woman, I offered a light smile. "Hi." Ignoring my Salutations, she said, "My name is Cynthia Wilson, but you'll address me as Ms. Wilson." She opened the door fully, so we could enter. When we entered Mr. Carter walked away leaving me with his housekeeper. "Follow me, I'll bring you to where you'll be staying." As she walked away I noticed that I didn't have my things with me. "Wait! Ms. Wilson, my things are still in the car." "Mr. Bennett will bring them to you shortly." She said and continued walking ahead of me. With Grey at my side, I couldn't help but admire the beautiful décor of the house. A well-polished wooden floor with a white rug in the centre between the stairways which was at each side of the room. A Classic candle-style chandelier was hanging from the ceiling. Ms. Wilson went to the walked staircase and started walking up it. I tucked on my dog to follow me, it seems like I wasn't the only one who realizes the beauty of this place. Maybe, just maybe it won't be so bad after all. I followed Ms. Wilson in a room that was not too far from the staircase. The room was clean, white walls and grey carpet. There was a Flat-screen Television attached to the walls. Along with a white chest-of-drawers. There were two chairs on each side of the room. The curtains matched the light blue sheets of the twin bed. "This is your room. Henrique is in the room beside this one. When Mr. Bennett bring your things up, neatly place them in the closet, dinner is at seven. Is there anything you need to know?" She was speaking to me as if I was a brat that she was paid to look after. "Yes, actually, I'd like to see Henrique." I answered. I needed to see the reason I was forced to be here. "No, Ms. Bisson. He's taking a nap and he's not the easiest person to control when he's awake. As soon as he wakes you'll hear him." With that, Ms. Wilson exits my room. After all the packing I had done, I was exhausted. I walked over to the bed and lay down. I smiled at the softness of the comforter and closed my eyes. Just when I'm about to hit deep sleep, I heard a loud screaming. I quickly jump and rub my eyes. The screaming continued so I quickly got up from the bed and follow the noise. The noise was coming from the room next to mine. I pushed opened the door to see a baby boy in his crib, standing with his hands on the border. Henrique. This child was my nephew. The son my sister had abandon. I felt a small tear fell from my eyes as I looked in the baby teary face. This was my sisters baby. Her beautiful baby. I walked over to his crib and picked him. Using my finger to wipe his teary eyes, I rocked him on my side. "Shh....It's okay. Auntie is here now." I could feel a tug in my heart as he looked into my eyes and calmed down. Why would anyone want to leave him in an office? He is so cute. His eyes were light brown, that of the same shade of his brother. It got me wondering, Was Mr. Carter really Henrique brother? Little Henrique could have easily pass as his son. They shared the same eye and hair color and they were beautiful alike. I shake my head, I shouldn't be thinking like this. I rubbed his back as I rocked him back and forth on my hip. How could Alliyah do such a thing to her child? "Food," he mumbled. I was startled when I heard him. How old is he? He looked just a bit older than a year, did baby speak this early? My mother had said we start talking at two and when we did, we were unstoppable. "Oh, baby hungry?" I asked him. He nods his head before he rested it on my shoulder. I rest my hand securely on his back then exit his room. I found myself walking down the stairs. I suspect the kitchen was somewhere down there. I walked but ended up in a dead end. While I was turning to look where to go, I heard water pouring in a sink. I followed the sound which led me to the kitchen.
