Chapter 3

Looking at Gavin's diffident look, I calmly said, "I'm here to try out the beauty treatments too." Before he could reply, Isabelle softly said, "I've always heard from Gavin that you're a down-to-earth woman, Tiffany. You might not be aware how pricey these beauty treatments are—they cost a fortune. I'm sure you would be reluctant to spend that much on yourself." "It's fine," I calmly replied. "Gavin has the money." Isabelle immediately choked on her words and turned to look at Gavin with an aggrieved look. He immediately frowned and snapped, "Stop with that sarcastic tone of yours, Tiffany! Belle keeps up on her appearance with these treatments using her own money. "You're just a housewife taking care of kids at home, where would you find time for this stuff? You're always wasting money. Do you think raising children doesn't cost anything? You're getting more and more vain nowadays!" I found it amusing then. It turned out that Gavin knew how costly raising children was. Funny how he never thought about that when he was spending money on Isabelle. At that moment, she stepped in to smooth things over. "That's enough. You should stop bullying Tiffany, Gavin. My birthday party is about to start soon. How about we bring Tiffany along to enjoy herself too?" Gavin was reluctant. "What's the point of bringing her along? She'll only ruin our mood!" "Stop throwing childish tantrums, Gavin. Tiffany is such a nice person. Besides, I'd like to receive birthday wishes from her too," Isabella softly coaxed, sounding more like his wife than I do. I was a woman, too, of course, I'd know what she was implying. However, I didn't have the heart to fight over him anymore. "Fine, I'll listen to you." Gavin was coaxed by Isabelle in no time, and he quickly gave in. But when he turned to me, he still shot me an annoyed warning. "A lot of my friends will be there tonight. Just keep your mouth shut and don't make me look bad!" I coldly looked at how he was strutting around, so full of himself. I remembered the divorce agreement in my handbag and didn't bother refusing him. As we got to the car, I opened the door to the passenger seat out of habit. I then saw a pantyhose on the car seat. Before I could even react, Gavin shoved me aside and grabbed the pantyhose. Feeling guilty, he started explaining, "Belle's shoes were bothering her earlier, so she just took them off. Don't overthink it." Isabelle gave me a half-smile, her eyes full of provocation. A wave of nausea washed over me. I immediately opened the door to the backseat and got in. Gavin was taken aback. Just as he was about to speak up, Isabelle pretended to ask, "Wouldn't it be inappropriate for me to take the passenger seat, Tiffany?" He immediately replied, "It's just the passenger seat—you can take it instead. She's just too used to getting her way and is acting up now!" Gavin then adjusted the seat back for Isabelle, making sure she was sitting comfortably. As my space continued to shrink, I coldly kicked the back of the passenger seat. He shot me an annoyed glare. "What's wrong with you?" Only then did he stop adjusting the seat. … The car pulled up in front of a five-star hotel half an hour later. Before we could get out of the car, a group of people flocked around us, grinning widely as they greeted us. "Happy birthday, Mrs. Jefferson!" "Gavin, that plain housewife of yours is unaware of this, right?" "We're celebrating Mrs. Jefferson's birthday today! No one's leaving sober…" At that moment, everyone finally saw my face clearly and was stunned.
