Chapter 8

Well finally, the time that we wait for to be released come, my palms were sweating because my thought echoes Hannah ’s worries. Who is my mate? What if my mate is a drunk or a jerk? May be Hannah realizes what I worried, she squeezes my hand to remind me that she is here for me, I am not alone. I remember what I said, yeah, have courage and fight, for the life I want. We walk out of the bunker. The light is bright as we are lined up on the far side of the field. The males are not far away and standing downwind of us. We know it is easy for them to find their mate, because the direction of wind they can follow our scent and recognize their mates. Take a broad view, many of them were actually fascinating and quite catching for their different fur colors. But when I stand next to Hannah, we hold hand tightly, we both know there is no chance for us to escape. But what if we try to fight. I squeeze back her hand as a signal to tell her just run as fast as we can, and never look back until you think you are safe. Let's give our mates a lesson that hunt is not easy as they thought. The gun is shot off and we look each other deeply because only moon goddess knows what's gonna happen tonight whether we will be able to smile like we used to be. Then we run for our life. I run in zig zag way through the trees to make it harder to track my trace, this is what I learn from books. I just tell myself no matter what happens I won't look back or slow down, because I swear to myself, and this is the fight. It is the time to fulfill my promise. I don’t know how far I run, just count the trees I passed. I have been running in these woods since childhood so there's no problem for me to find my way and not to get lost. And I am still in my human form, it is a better way to hide my scent. Already I can hear the thumps of shifted males nearing but I don't look back or slow down. Some girl shriek, but some screams, when they are being caught. I know some of them must marked by force. This moment I realize that I need to run harder and faster. Even if it is impossible to outrun most males, but the freedom is always worth trying. I push myself harder and I feel my throat have start to burn, my lung may be blood, but it doesn’t matter. There's no time to deal with that right now. When I am sure that I am far enough from them, I stop for a moment to catch my breath and survey the situation. I am satisfied that here is occupied by large trees and long grasses, I believe nowhere could be better to hide, and pick a tree which has a suitable height from the ground. I hear three shots go off in sequence in signaling there are 30 minutes left of this hell. I am happy for it but unfortunately, I find my hands are bloody. It is the bad news, because blood leaves a strong trail of scent, but I never give it up, still wait for some more time, he may be hide out there too? After 10 more minutes I drop onto the forest floor. The final gun almost shot, I guess I cannot be found so I land silently. All I can feel and hear is silence and the birds. So, I decided to relax a bit. It is a good place to have picnic or take a nap here. I may make a plan after the hunt is over. After 10 more minutes, there is no more to be done, I am caught off guard and find something blocking my path. Wait what? I realize that it is a chest because it is warm. A naked chest! My hands touch those hard planes of chest absent-mindly and I feel sparks and heart beating until I realize what this means. IT IS MY MATE.
