Rosie took off her apron and tossed it aside without a second glance. She rushed toward Brenda's bedroom to start packing.
Brenda had already settled onto the couch in the living room, gently praying with her eyes closed. She was done speaking to Lucien.
Left with no better option, he turned to Rosie.
She was already moving swiftly, folding clothes and bundling up toiletries with efficiency.
"Rosie?"
"Yes, Mr. Reese?"
"Let me help you."
"No, it's fine. You just sit down. I've got this."
Lucien's outstretched hand froze midair before he pulled it back awkwardly.
"Rosie… Why do you seem so afraid of Thalia?"
Rosie looked uncomfortable. "N-No. Not at all."
"Don't hide anything from me. If something's wrong, just tell me."
Rosie looked down and smiled tiredly. "Mr. Reese, I've been a housekeeper all my life. I've served plenty of households, but only Mrs. Reese Senior ever treated me like family. And you—I've always thought of you as a son."
"I know," he said quietly
