Chapter 10

Esther understood what Tinkerbell meant. She was trying to express that she was ill and didn't want to be a burden. "Tinkerbell, you're not a burden. You're the best, best, best gift God has given me," Esther reassured her. Tinkerbell seemed puzzled by Esther's words, and after a moment, she said, "But... I don't want you to be my mommy!" Before Esther could respond, Tinkerbell ran away, leaving Esther feeling heavy-hearted. Jasper approached Esther and suggested, "Esther, it's bedtime for the kids. We should leave, too." "Jasper, can I take..." Jasper interrupted, coughing gently as he reminded her, "I understand how you feel, but assuming Tinkerbell is your daughter based on a photo is too reckless. Besides, they won't let you take the child just because you claim to be her mother. They have rules and regulations in place. "If you want to take Tinkerbell home sooner, do two things now. First, go for the bone marrow transplant test. You have a higher chance of matching if you're Tinkerbell's mother." Jasper calmly analyzed the situation for Esther. "Second, write an application to explain yourself. The home will arrange for a third party to conduct a maternity test for you. Once the result confirms you're Tinkerbell's mother, you can legally take her back without the three months of probation." Esther nodded seriously. "Jasper, you're right. Let's go to the hospital for the test now." "Sure." Jasper accompanied Esther to the hospital. "Esther, this is a public hospital. Their hematology department is famous nationwide. You can do the preliminary test now, but the more detailed ones will have to wait until tomorrow when the other departments are working," Jasper explained. Jasper registered Esther for an emergency at the hospital and explained the reason to the ward staff. The doctor there provided her with referrals for the preliminary check-up. After the tests were done, Esther checked the time and realized she had been away for nearly three hours. She worried about Felix and wondered if he had been caught. She also knew she couldn't upset Bradley, as she needed to persuade him for a matching test if her bone marrow wasn't a match. "Jasper, I'll go back first." Jasper personally sent her back to the hospital under the Warner Group's protection, stopping her before she got out of the car. "Esther, hold on." He got out of the car and knelt down to change Esther's shoes, replacing them with size 37 white lambskin shoes. "Esther, have a good rest. I'll keep an eye on Tinkerbell's situation," Jasper told her gently. "I'll also do my best to find the couple who adopted Pixie. I believe you'll reunite with them soon." Esther felt grateful as she looked at the man. After what happened five years ago, others avoided her, but Jasper treated her with kindness. "Jasper, thank you." Jasper patted her hair affectionately. "Nonsense! Go in now. Don't upset Bradley." "Okay." Jasper watched Esther enter the hospital with a gentle gaze. Once she was out of sight, he looked up at Bradley on the distant balcony, his eyes challenging. Then, he smirked and turned away nonchalantly, getting back into the car. As Esther quietly sneaked into her hospital ward, the door opened suddenly. The bodyguard glanced at her blankly and said, "Mr. Warner is waiting for you." Upon hearing that Bradley was waiting for her, Esther's heart skipped a beat. She entered the room with trepidation. Bang! Bradley angrily threw a luxurious crystal glass at Esther, shattering it against the door next to her. Shards flew past her, and one grazed her face, leaving a line of blood. "Esther Quill, you're very bold!" Bradley fumed. He had seen the surveillance recording and discovered that Esther had escaped through the pipe on the balcony. He was even more furious that she had involved Felix in her plan. Getting closer to Esther, he held her chin tightly and demanded, "How dare you teach Felix to lie!?" Fearful of angering him further, Esther spoke gently, "Bradley, I found out from Felix that they were at Sunflower Welfare, and I couldn't help but go see them." "Couldn't help?" Bradley sneered. "You held back well during the four years you spent in prison, didn't you?" "Have you forgotten? You brought them here to tell me that my babies had died! If I had known..." Esther's emotions overwhelmed her. "If I had known that they were still alive..." She would have behaved better and tried to get released on parole. No, she would have made an appeal if she had known her children were alive. She couldn't bear the thought of her daughters being labeled as a murderer's daughters when they were born. "Use Felix again, Esther, and you'll never find them," Bradley warned ruthlessly. He released her and smirked when he noticed the red mark on her pale face. "Bradley, is your bone marrow record in the National Bone Marrow Bank?" Esther asked anxiously, thinking about Tinkerbell's condition and when Bradley would leave. "What does it matter to you?" Bradley replied coldly. Esther grabbed his arm. "Please, just tell me. It's important to me." Tinkerbell was his daughter, and if his bone marrow record was in the bank, it meant she had a higher chance of finding a match. "If I could choose, I wouldn't want my son to have anything to do with you," Bradley replied bitterly. He had undergone tests when he found out Felix had leukemia, hoping his bone marrow could help someone one day, just as he wished someone's bone marrow could help his son. But he never expected that person to be Esther. She was Felix's hope for survival. Bradley warned her to stay in the hospital and threatened to tie her to the operation theater himself if she attempted to escape again.
