The morning passed peacefully. They had breakfast together, shared a few ordinary words, and then both went off to the office. Nothing felt unusual, no sign of the storm that was waiting ahead. It was late in the evening when Lily finally returned. Claire dropped her at the entrance, waving goodbye.
