Chapter 68

“Home?” Lily’s heart twisted painfully. She scoffed, her voice laced with disbelief. “Is that my home? Was it ever?” She knew why he was doing this, why he was suddenly so affectionate. It was never about her. It was about him, about his reputation. David’s expression didn’t falter. “Alright,” he said calmly. “If that’s what you want, I’ll give you that home.” Lily stared at him in shock before a bitter laugh escaped her lips. This man didn’t even know what “home” meant. Arguing with him felt pointless. David, mistaking her laugh for agreement, pulled her closer. “Just sleep now,” he whispered. She stopped resisting, her body too tired to fight him anymore. His warmth was stifling, his hold unyielding. Minutes passed in silence. Her thoughts churned, a storm of anger, confusion, and weariness. But exhaustion won. Her eyelids grew heavy, and despite herself, she drifted off in his arms. The soft glow of early morning light slipped through the curtains, casting a warm hue over the room.
