Chapter 134
Marcus was clearly swamped, barely glancing her way. Elaine figured—why bother with small talk? Better to cut to the chase.
"Marcus, um... today's the third day already, the thing you promised me..." Before she even finished, Marcus casually grabbed Oliver's laptop from his desk and handed it to her. "Take it."
Wait, seriously? That easy?
Of course she didn't turn him down. Elaine instantly reached out to take the laptop and said sincerely, "Thank you, Marcus."
"I'll head out now."
"Yeah." Marcus didn't even look up, just gave a half-hearted reply.
For some reason, Elaine felt a little awkward—maybe 'cause he handed it over too painlessly, or maybe because he was just so busy he couldn't spare a second for chit-chat.
Technically, she should've gone home right after. But instead, she somehow ended up packing a takeaway meal from a nearby diner and bringing it back.
When she walked into the office again, Marcus was still glued to his screen, fingers dancing over the keyboard without paus
