So they were going to pull an all-nighter?
It wasn't exactly bad news for Elaine, but still, out of courtesy, she asked, "Aren't you heading back?"
"I told you to go home," Marcus said, half-command, no room for argument.
"Aye aye, sir," Elaine replied, completely serious.
It was already late—she got in the car around 8 p.m. She glanced at the laptop on the seat beside her, and just to be safe, she opened it up and ran a quick check.
After the whole deal with Oliver's home PC getting bugged, she wasn't taking any chances.
She inspected every nook and cranny. Everything looked clean—no signs of anything suspicious.
Without wasting time, she called Oliver. "Got the laptop."
His first reaction? "Did you run a check on it first?"
Elaine, already confident, shot back, "Did it. No issues."
"Alright, bring it over," Oliver said, his tone totally lacking any trace of excitement.
Elaine rolled her eyes in disbelief. It's your laptop, dude. Can't you at least sound a little happy?
