Philip wisely zipped his lips. Eventually, he muttered, "Got it."
Elaine raised an eyebrow. "Got what? Sounds like you didn't get anything."
He snickered, still trying to play smart. "Got that imagination is free—it's good to leave some to the brain."
Elaine couldn't help but twitch the corner of her mouth, glancing at him speechlessly. Then she gave him a thumbs up. "You know what? You're ridiculously optimistic."
Philip gave her a little mock bow. "Right back at you," he said playfully.
She did consider herself pretty optimistic—but compared to him? She was still a rookie.
They sat there quietly for a while. The flames flickered, crackling softly. Elaine felt her eyelids grow heavier by the second.
