"Wait for me after work," Marcus said.
Without skipping a beat, Elaine replied, "Sure, I'll let him know."
Marcus closed his eyes for a second, visibly annoyed, then said through slightly gritted teeth, "I meant *you*."
Elaine forced a stiff smile. "Oh... So, when are you off, then?"
"Mrs. Sinclair, got other plans?" Marcus shot back playfully, a mocking look on his face.
Elaine quickly said, "Nope, I was just wondering if I should grab dinner while I wait."
"Don't bother," he replied coolly.
"Got it," Elaine said, instantly shifting into obedient mode.
Turned out, trusting a man's words was basically playing yourself.
It was almost seven, and her stomach was already staging a protest. She didn't dare move around too much, afraid of wearing herself out more, so she just drank water to fill the void.
