Chapter 2
Upon returning home, I entered the house to find Letitia and my mother-in-law in the living room.
My mother-in-law was cradling Letitia’s child, cooing at her grandson tenderly.
Beside her, Letitia was dressed in custom-made luxury items, looking radiant. Her belly was slightly protruding, and it was obvious that she was a happy pregnant woman.
Before I could speak, Letitia spotted me.
She offered a gentle smile, her words carrying hidden meaning: “Anti Murray, what if Lorraine doesn't agree to me moving in? After all, she is your daughter-in-law.”
My mother-in-law snorted derisively. “What kind of daughter-in-law is she to me? After so many years of marriage, she just gave birth to a daughter of a little value . If it weren't for Lester's unwillingness, I would have kicked her out of the Turner Family long ago! ”
“Unlike you! You gave me this grand son—I don't know how to love him enough. Honestly, Lester should divorce that worthless woman and let you take her place.”
After my mother-in-law finished her words, Letitia instantly covered her mouth and giggled.
I tugged at the corner of my mouth and walked inside expressionless.
I knew my mother-in-law had never truly liked me, looking down on us Greens as nouveau riche.
Even though I brought money into the Turner family and saved it, she still saw me as someone trying to cash in on a favor.
Ever since Letitia returned, she'd been pushing Lester to get back together with her.
In the past, Lester always reassured me he'd never be with someone who'd abandoned him.
But years passed, and now their child was this big.
Clearly, they'd slept together soon after Letitia came back.
My heart ached numbly. I headed upstairs without looking at them .
Only then did my mother-in-law notice me. Seeing I hadn't even greeted her, her eyebrows shot up in fury as she snapped:
“Lorraine! You're becoming more and more disrespectful! You don't even acknowledge me when you see me! No wonder that your valueless daughter had a failed surgery—it's only because you don't respect your elders!”
I froze in my tracks, staring straight at her.
“My child's surgery failed because she had a heartless father!”
Panic flashed in my mother-in-law's eyes. Unsure if I knew something, she blurted out:
“What does Lester have to do with your child's death? His child with Letitia...”
“Mom! What are you saying?!”
Just as my mother-in-law was about to spill everything, Lester finally sensed something was wrong in the kitchen.
He carefully carried a small bowl of soup out of the kitchen. Even though his tone was extremely anxious, he didn't spill that bowl of soup .
After placing the soup cautiously before Letitia, Lester frowned at me.
“Mom's just upset. You shouldn't speak to her like that. Apologize to Mom and Letitia now!”
He glared at me sternly, completely forgetting the promises he’d made to me on our wedding day.
He’d sworn he’d never let me suffer in our mother-in-law relationship, that there’d never be another woman.
But now it was clear—every promise Lester had made was a lie.
I stared at him coldly.
“I won’t apologize. You know perfectly well it’s you who’ve wronged me.”
With that, I turned and walked upstairs without hesitation.
