[Lucian’s POV] Halvyr hadn’t put much of a defense up when he was being questioned. The man was stammering for a good half of the interrogation. I just found it amazing that he truly believed he was never going to get caught. The Baron admitted to trying to kill Violet on the grounds that it was what was best for the region. “I was purely thinking of the region’s best interests,” he’d claimed. It took every ounce of self-restraint to not tear the old man to pieces. How many times had I been told that same line of bullshit... It was the same excuse I’d been told all those years ago when I was made to give up Violet in the first place. All the pain I had caused, everything the two of us had sacrificed and for what?? So that people like Halvyr and Venmer could keep their outdated, unjust laws in place? No more.
