There was a brief silence on the other end of the line before Liam's voice came through. "What does it have to do with me if Aurelia skips school? My job is just to bring her back."
Aurelia couldn't help but scowl at how quickly Liam passed the blame onto her.
The image of him as a strong, heroic figure she had in her mind crumbled in an instant.
After all, it was Liam who had complained about how boring school was and had decided to take her for a joyride in his sports car.
"Is that so?" Maeve asked.
"Of course."
Without a trace of guilt, Liam added, "Did Aurelia skip school again?
"I was planning to visit Seathburn City anyway, so I'll have my secretary book a flight. I'll personally bring her back."
Maeve glanced at Aurelia but didn't call out Liam's lie.
Instead, she said, "You should come tonight. Zee and I had just taken care of things with James, and... I think Aurelia would really appreciate it if you brought her home."
With that, she hung up.
