Chapter 655
"I see..." Tessa murmured.
Maeve glanced down at the phone in her hand, lost in thought.
With Julian now dead, no one on the ship would notice the missing phone. Julian had always been Liam's right-hand man in organizing Larson Group's events, so the phone likely contained incriminating evidence against the group.
If she could smuggle it out, it could be a powerful weapon in bringing Liam down.
…
Meanwhile, at the bustling Seathburn City Pier, Zion and Charlie were personally overseeing the stakeout, with a hundred men strategically positioned around the area.
"Something's not right, Zion," Charlie commented. "Liam's ship should have arrived by now, but there's no sign of it."
Zion frowned at his words. "What about the tracking?"
"It stopped a while ago. Liam must've turned off his phone, disabling the tracking."
His brow furrowed deeper. Just then, his phone chimed. He wearily picked it up, but his eyes brightened as he read the message on the screen.
"It's from Mavy."
"What?" Charlie turned to see Zion's phone with a message from Maeve.
Although it was from an unfamiliar number, the content was unmistakable. It mentioned that Liam hadn't followed the original plan. He was still lingering and observing, likely heading toward Yewridge.
Zion's expression hardened at the mention of Yewridge.
Turning to him, Charlie's voice was tense. "Zion, Yewridge..."
Yewridge was Conner's territory. Liam wouldn't head there without a reason.
"They're not going to Yewridge," Zion stated, his voice edged with concern. "They're headed for Laventon."
Liam ruled Laventon, and going there was like stepping into quicksand.
Charlie's face filled with worry. "Don't go. I'll talk to Levi, maybe I should—"
"I'm going. You stay out of it," Zion interrupted.
"No way! Laventon is a den of vice, the city of sin that Liam built himself."
Heading to Laventon meant walking straight into Liam's lair.
"I won't let him harm Maeve," Zion replied, his voice steely with resolve.
Charlie hadn't seen him this angry in a long time. If anything happened to Maeve, Zion might unleash a fury that would make all-out war look mild.
…
By evening, Maeve could finally see the shoreline through the cabin window, but it wasn't Seathburn City. It looked more like Yewridge.
It seemed Liam truly intended to reach Yewridge before flying to Laventon. If they made it to Laventon, her chances of escape would be slim.
Just then, there was a knock at the door. Assuming it was Tessa, she called out, "Come in."
To her surprise, a nurse entered, leaving Maeve momentarily stunned.
What could a nurse want with her at this hour?
