Chapter 1
"Reyna, you once said you were only into my body. So if we break up now, it doesn't count as me using you, right?"
Nathan Griffin gracefully leaned back on the couch.
That one line made Reyna Wood's chest tighten.
So this was his explanation after she caught him with his arm around another woman in public?
Nathan didn't seem to notice her expression. As he spoke, he slipped his arm around her waist.
"Griffin Group's cash flow has hit a snag. I need to connect with Wood Group. They just moved into Halverdon, and she's the niece of the Wood family's head."
The Wood family?
Reyna casually avoided his hand and slipped the file in her hand out of sight.
"What about me?"
"You?" Nathan chuckled and tilted her chin with a teasing touch. "It's just a game. You're not actually taking it seriously, are you?"
Reyna opened her mouth but only managed to ask, "You're really cutting me off for her? Is she wilder than me?"
Her reaction made Nathan's eyes gleam with satisfaction.
"She's not like you. She's refined and innocent. Wife material."
Reyna scoffed silently. She felt something sharp twist in her chest.
Not like her, huh?
Her lashes fluttered as she lowered her gaze. She was stunning beyond words.
Had he forgotten that she had been the picture of innocence, too, before she dated him?
Nathan was the one who said he liked wild ladies and slowly shaped Reyna into who she was now.
She thought this was what he wanted and that their relationship was headed toward marriage.
But now, he was calling someone else innocent and wife material.
Reyna let out a faint, self-mocking laugh.
"I see."
As if finally sensing the shift in her mood, Nathan pulled a diamond bracelet from his pocket and slipped it over the opening of her V-shaped neckline.
"With your status, my mom was never going to accept you. You knew that. As long as you don't stir up trouble in front of her, we can keep this going."
The cold of the diamonds stung against her skin.
This was typical of Nathan.
Reyna pulled the bracelet out by the tip of her finger and let it dangle. It was the Trilogy Collection, a new release this season from a well-known luxury brand.
It dropped last month. She had seen the receipt tucked inside his blazer pocket.
He had bought it a while ago, but he was only giving it to her now.
Probably because his innocent little fiancee didn't like it. Since it couldn't be returned, he tossed it to Reyna like he was discarding trash.
Reyna felt like her heart had cracked wide open.
But she slipped it on like always, looking as if she adored it. She tilted her face up with a charming smile.
"How about we try something new tonight?"
She was every bit the playful fox, leaving Nathan restless with desire.
He loved that mix of sweetness and seduction in her. Laughing, he opened his arms wide. "Sure."
Seductive as ever, Reyna picked up a blindfold and slipped it over his eyes. Then, she used a belt and a tie to bind his hands and feet to the chair.
Only then did she begin unbuttoning his shirt.
She leaned in close, her lips nearly brushing his ear. "No peeking, okay?"
Nathan never could resist her. His pale skin flushed under her touch. "You're dead tonight."
After finishing the motion, Reyna let her smile fade as she stepped back. Her voice, however, remained sweet and flirtatious. "Wait right there. I'm gonna take a quick shower."
She headed to the bathroom and turned on the shower, but she didn't get in.
Using the sound of the water as cover, she dragged out her suitcase.
Nathan had trained her to be what he wanted, but he'd clearly forgotten that Reyna was never the submissive type.
She packed swiftly, sweeping up every piece of jewelry worth anything.
Without so much as a glance at Nathan, who was still panting and waiting for her, she turned and walked away without looking back.
