Chapter 12
To make it up to Eloise, Jeremy drove through the narrow streets in the older part of the city to buy her favorite cupcakes.
Alas, they were sold out by the time he arrived.
Frowning, he had no choice but to negotiate with the last customer so he'd at least get a cupcake.
Unfortunately, the customer was reluctant to share because he had bought it for his wife.
Jeremy blurted out, "How about this? I'll pay you five times the price if you give one of them to me. My wife loves these too."
A realization hit him, and he snapped back to reality when the customer agreed to the deal.
After that, he drove a long way home, but what greeted him was an unlit house.
Shocked, he placed the cupcake aside and called Eloise's name as he made his way into the house. No reply came.
The house looked empty and abandoned.
He turned on the lights and saw a letter-sized paper and a divorce certificate on the coffee table. His heart sank at the sight.
