Chapter 8
At the ski area, Scarlett set her skiboard on the ground and smirked at Eloise.
A band-aid had been plastered on the scratch wound on her cheek.
On the other hand, Eloise's forehead had dried blood.
Eloise attempted to walk around Scarlett, but Scarlett stood in her way.
"See, Eloise? It doesn't matter if you married Mr. Gibson. After all these years, he only sees you as a friend. He doesn't love you, and nothing's gonna change his mind, even if you pathetically beg for his love!"
Eloise pushed Scarlett aside with an arm in disgust. "Scarlett, you've ruined my watch. I won't let it slide so easily, and I will make you pay for it.
"Get out of my way for now."
Scarlett couldn't believe that Eloise could still remain arrogant after all the humiliation. Clenching her teeth, she suddenly noticed something in the corner of her eye.
She looked past Eloise with a sly smile.
"Oh, are you talking about that shabby watch? Is it not broken yet? I should have thrown it into the drain so you won't ever get it back!"
Eloise glared at Scarlett, but she did not hurl a punch like Scarlett had expected.
As Jeremy neared, Scarlett started to lose her cool. Failing to provoke Eloise, she shoved the latter instead.
Eloise, who was already standing at the edge, leaned backward. She quickly grabbed Scarlett, and they rolled down the slope as Scarlett screamed.
However, Scarlett was unhurt because she wore a protective suit. In contrast, Eloise felt stinging pain all over her body. She teared up from the fracture in her arm.
When Jeremy ran towards them, Eloise relied on him like before. "Jeremy, I think my arm is—"
"Eloise, who do you think you are? How could you ignore my warning and repeatedly hurt my woman?" Jeremy blurted out, cutting her off.
No sound came out of Eloise's trembling lips.
Meanwhile, Jeremy had lifted the crying Scarlett into his arms.
A dense, searing pain spread in Eloise's abdomen. She trembled uncontrollably, as if her heart were being torn apart.
Jeremy was about to leave with Scarlett when Eloise yelled at him, "Jeremy, who am I to you?"
She was not a friend nor a lover. He didn't even see her as his woman.
So, what was she to him?
Jeremy had not spared her another look until she directed the pointed question at him. The cold look in his eyes felt like a stab to her heart.
He opened his mouth. "You? You're nothing to me."
He walked away and disappeared from view.
She gradually lost her consciousness from the excruciating pain.
…
Eloise found herself in a hospital bed when she woke up. Wyatt was by her side, looking upset and a little sorry for her.
After some deliberation, he decided to speak.
"Eloise, you and Jeremy are young. You'll have another baby in the future."
Eloise was surprisingly calm when faced with the news of her miscarriage. Her eyes looked dead.
Wyatt pressed his lips together with a conflicted expression. "Jeremy is on his way. Wait for him."
Her lashes fluttered when she heard Jeremy's name mentioned. She made an excuse to send Wyatt away. Then, she made a call.
Soon, the other person called her back.
After that, Eloise left the hospital when the nurses weren't paying attention. A black car was waiting to pick her up at the entrance.
She got into the car without hesitation.
She and Jeremy would never have another baby together. There would be no future between them.
