Chapter 3

One year ago, Melanie discovered that Raymond had been cheating on her with her best friend. It was also then that she learned the truth about the incident that happened five years ago, when she lost her virginity. Raymond said, "If Melanie hadn't become used goods, there was no way she would have agreed to my proposal. Who knows just how many men had their way with her that night and who the father of that bastard in her womb could be? It truly is karma that her daughter has leukemia. After all, she's filthy. "All these years, I've had to force back my disgust just to live with her. Fortunately, her father is now being investigated for corruption and bribery. I'll make sure that he'll never be able to leave prison for the rest of his life. Once that happens, Eternity Group will be ours!" Every sentence out of his mouth was like another dagger stabbing deep into her heart. In the past, Raymond had never touched her, and she had simply assumed it was out of consideration for her trauma. As it turned out, he never laid a finger on her because he thought that she was too dirty and had already gone behind her back to hook up with her best friend long ago. Unfortunately, by the time Melanie learned the truth, she had already lost the ability to fight back, as the company staff had all been replaced with Raymond's people. Forced into a corner with nothing to her name, there was no place left for her in Gothville. Raymond had even been so ruthless as to threaten the hospital, forbidding them from treating Louisa. Not wanting to see her daughter wither away from the illness, Melanie had travelled to many other cities in search of treatment and job opportunities until she finally saw the news about Derrick being in a traffic accident on the entertainment news. "Don't you have even a shred of shame in you? You're rubbing me raw!" Derrick's menacing voice abruptly sounded in her ears. "Just how long do you plan on wiping that spot?" Without warning, Melanie turned to look at him, only for her eyes to widen when she saw what she shouldn't have. Her blood roared in her ears, and in that moment, she wanted to crawl into a hole and die. "How long are you planning on ravishing me with your eyes?" If looks could kill, Melanie would be dead a thousand times over by now. "S-Sorry! I'm so sorry!" Melanie hastily pulled up his pants. "You!" Derrick's entire face was beet red, and his body was tensed like a tightly coiled spring. "I-I was too engrossed in the TV as that man is just too handsome…" Melanie stammered. "That's why I was distracted. Besides, I didn't rub you raw. From what I saw earlier, it's all black down there, and I couldn't tell…" Inwardly, she was screaming, "Just what am I saying? Oh, will somebody come kill me now? Or maybe I could bite off my own tongue…" Derrick's expression was frosty as he glared at her sharply. "Are you saying that I'm dirty?" Indeed, he hadn't showered ever since his accident, but he had a wipe-down every single day. Could it be that Renard hadn't cleaned him well enough? Even a ripe tomato wasn't as red as Melanie was at that moment. Remembering how she'd already gotten an up-close look at Derrick, her brain short-circuited, and she blurted, "No, no, you're not dirty. You're really clean!" "Melanie York!" Derrick was both frustrated and annoyed, having a strong urge to throttle the woman to death! Could she be any more shameless? She truly was proving that women in their 30s were like starving wolves. However, what was even more terrifying was that Derrick was actually reacting to her touch! He couldn't help but shiver. He wondered if he'd really gotten that desperate. A dark look painted his face at the thought. "Call Dr. Moore for me." Melanie instantly grew a little anxious. "Are you hurting?" She was worried that she had scrubbed him too hard earlier and accidentally injured him. "That's none of your business. Just call him over like I told you." Somewhat nervous, Melanie hastily dialed the doctor's number. After she hung up, she heaved a sigh, worried that the fussy Derrick would fire her. If she had to leave, then it would be incredibly troublesome for her to get close to him again. She trudged up the stairs and entered his bedroom once more. His shirt was still splayed open, so out of worry that he would catch a cold, she carefully reached forward, planning on buttoning it up for him. Before she could even touch his shirt, he roared, "Don't touch me!" Melanie shrank back in shock, her heart skipping a beat as she thought, "Oh no… He won't even let me touch him now. How am I supposed to take care of him from now on?" She instinctively apologized, "I'm really sorry, Mr. Quinton… I didn't do it on purpose." She hadn't meant to wipe him for so long, nor had she meant to look at and touch him. Everything had been an accident! Letting out a furious snort, Derrick turned away, refusing to look at her. … It didn't take long for a drowsy Wilson Moore to arrive at the villa. It was late at night, so he was already dressed in pajamas and slippers. Nonetheless, he had still forced himself to come here as he had been worried that something had happened to Derrick. Before Wilson could inquire about the situation, Derrick glanced at Melanie and ordered, "You, leave." Melanie froze in surprise, shooting him a bewildered look. She was his caretaker and was in charge of his daily needs, especially regarding his physical care. How was she supposed to look after him in the future if he didn't let her listen in on his body's condition? Seeing her hesitate, Derrick warned coldly, "If you don't leave now, you can forget about working here." Melanie hurriedly left the room, even closing the door behind her. Wilson laughed and said, "You changed caretakers again. How many does that make now? Every time I come here, it's a different person." Derrick's expression was grim as he uttered, "After the accident half a year ago, you told me that I wouldn't get any reaction from my lower body. Yet, I had a reaction just now…" At first, Wilson was stunned, but then his face lit up in joy. "Are you serious? What happened?" In the early days after his accident, Derrick had undergone a multitude of tests that proved that he had lost the ability to feel anything in his lower body. The inability to get erections was also the reason for his moody behavior. Derrick clamped his lips shut at the questions, unwilling to answer. He also hadn't expected his body to react like that at Melanie's touch. It would've been understandable if it had been a young, beautiful woman. Yet, not only was Melanie older, but she was also divorced and had a child. He would truly become a laughing stock of society if word of this got out. Wilson blinked in surprise before smiling. "Rick, you have to tell me the truth so I can think of the best treatment plan for you." Derrick's face turned bright red in embarrassment as he squeezed out through gritted teeth, "My body reacted when the caretaker was wiping me down just now." It took several seconds before Wilson was able to snap out of his shock. He asked in disbelief, "That caretaker just now? Hey, is it because you haven't gotten any action in too long that your tastes and standards have dropped?" Sucking in a deep breath, Derrick added, "I also had a dream last night…" "What dream?" Wilson questioned curiously. "There was a woman in it… It felt so real… So very, very real. It was almost as though we really had done it…" There was an odd look on Derrick's face. He couldn't quite remember what had happened in the dream, but something told him the woman was the same one he had seen five years ago. Wilson quickly hid his amusement before saying seriously, "The nerves leading to that region were damaged. Although they might have recovered in the past six months, it could be that you were under so much psychological stress that it affected you physically. "Regardless, I guess you could say this incident had an unexpected but welcome outcome. You should keep this caretaker. From what I can tell, she seemed quite worried about you." Noticing how Derrick still looked tense, Wilson teased, "In the future, you should have her wipe your body more often. Then you can enjoy it even more." "Shut up!" Just the thought of that had Derrick shuddering. "I'm not interested in her." Wilson chortled. "Then keep on dreaming." "Get lost!"
