Chapter 6

"So if I'm a beta does that mean that I'll actually know what's going on?" "Of course. Why do you ask?" "I've been in the dark my whole life but now you put me in a position of power when I come back from uncle Darrius." I gave him a questioning look and he let off a growl in his chest. "Are you questioning my motives?" I nodded to give him my response. He got up from his seat hastily but I held my ground as he walked over to me. He stood over me looking down angrily but I didn't budge. Derrick was way scarier, even if I was never on the receiving end of his anger. "So you go with him and you're tough?" I nodded again with a smug smirk on my face. He punched the wall next to my head but I didn't flinch. It's too bad Nick wouldn't take over for a few more years, my dad lost his touch. He looked at me irritated before he backed off. "Do you want to go back?" He meant it as a threat but I smiled and nodded my head yes. "Too bad. This is your home and whether you like it or not, you're my new beta. Now get out of my office." I left and went up to my room. I don't want to be the beta for a weak alpha, even if that alpha is my dad. I heard a knock on my door but didn't answer. I knew it was Nick. He knocked a few more times before he slid down the door and stayed there. I walked over to the door and did the same, knowing our backs were facing each other. "Callie, I know I messed up. I miss you. I was just worried about how you would take it." I thought back to our car ride home from the airport when he seemed worried. "You know as twins it's optimal if we are best friends." I laughed and shook my head. "Are you sure it has nothing to do with our beta jobs?" He sighed and I knew that even he didn't want to have the job. "I don't care about being a beta. I just want my sister back." I cleared my throat to stop the tears that wanted to fall. I couldn't stay mad at him forever. I opened the door and smiled when I saw a grin plastered across his face. He swung me around in his arms just like he used to do before I left.  After I let him in we sat in my room watching Netflix and eating all the snacks we could sneak up from the kitchen. I told him everything that uncle Darrius had told me while I was in Hungary about twins and our family. "Why didn't dad tell us any of this?" I shrugged not having an answer for him. He was deep in thought about what I had told him before he just nodded his head. I looked at him confused, so he kissed the top of my head before getting up. "Come on shortness, dad wants us to sit in for the treaty talks with Braden's pack." I tensed and Nick noticed. He slowly walked back over to me and pulled on my arm to make me stand up. He grabbed my face with both of his hands before looking me straight in the eyes. "Don't let him get to you. Do you still like him?" "No!" I said a little too quickly. Nick just nodded his head. "Then prove it. Let's go." He let go of my face to grab my hand and lead me down to my dad's office. Slowly my demeanor changed the closer we got. I knew Nick could tell but he said nothing. Walking through the door I glared at all the men in the room. "Glad you two could make it." I walked to the side our warriors stood and picked my own spot before crossing my arms and glaring at their Beta. I could feel Braden's eyes on me but like Nick said I wasn't going to let him get to me. "Now for this treaty." I looked at my father to see him pull out a document. He placed it down before he pushed it across the table towards Braden. Braden looked it over and stopped before placing it back down. "I won't sign that." "Why not?" Braden's fist balled in anger as he gritted his teeth. "We've talked about it before. I won't give you a section of our land." I looked at my dad bewildered. Treaties weren't meant to be land transfers. What was he thinking? "Then it doesn't seem like we will be able to make an agreement." I looked at Nick and saw that he disagreed as much as I did. "Dad." Every head snapped in my direction when I spoke that one word. No pressure at all. "I don't think that should be a clause in your treaty." I watched as my dad's face turned red with anger. "Hear me out. Treaties aren't made as a way to transfer property. It draws lines and boundaries between two packs. You're trying to bully a younger and more capable alpha. It really isn't that smart." "Callie. Out." Well I had to see that one coming. I just shrugged as I walked out of the room. Was I going to get in trouble for this? You better believe it. What shocked me is I didn't care. My father was doing bad business and if no one else would call him on it. Then I would. Suddenly I felt a cold shiver run down my spine but I knew that no one was around to make me feel that way. "Nick, what's going on?" He didn't answer me which made me worry more. I watched as all of Braden's men left before I looked at Nick who was following behind them. "What's going on?" "We have two really big problems." His eyes kept darting between the windows like he was looking for something. "What is it?" I know I probably sounded panicked but I didn't know what would freak my brother out this much. "Rogues have been spotted in the area and the alpha from the Night Stalker Pack is coming here to discuss the new terms of our treaty."
